ZonnepanelenDelen is a Netherlands-based platform that facilitates financing for small-scale solar energy projects. Founded in 2014 by Matthijs Olieman and Sven Pluut, the company aims to accelerate the energy transition by making solar energy financing simple and accessible.
The platform offers financial leasing, bank loans, and bond issues through its online platform to finance commercial solar panel projects. By digitalizing the financing process and standardizing the necessary documentation, ZonnepanelenDelen enables smaller projects to obtain attractive financing options.
As of April 2022, the company claimed to have grown to become the biggest independent financing platform for commercial solar panel projects in the Netherlands, with 10,000 investors helping make over 1 million solar panels possible.
In April 2022, ZonnepanelenDelen secured EUR 20 million in financing from ING Business Banking to upscale its platform and facilitate more solar energy projects. Additionally, the company raised EUR 2.2 million from ING Sustainable Investments, DOEN Participaties, and Obton to further digitalize and expand its offerings.
ZonnepanelenDelen plans to introduce an online "solar MOT" (Ministry of Transport) service that leverages production data and technical information from financed solar panels to help project owners maximize returns and identify issues. The company also aims to enable sharing project information with third parties like installers and insurers, as well as implement smart alarm functions to reduce missed production.
In 2016, ZonnepanelenDelen was nominated by the United Nations for the United Nations Lighthouse activity award for its solution contributing to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
