Gaia Salmon is a land-based fish farming company in Norway, focusing on salmon production. The company aims to produce between 8,000 and 10,000 tonnes of post-smolts weighing up to 800 grams annually at its facility in Traena, Nordland. This post-smolt facility, part of Gaia's broader goal to reach annual production of 50,000 tonnes of head-on-gutted salmon within 10 years, is expected to start operations in May or June 2024. The facility, constructed at a cost of NOK 1 billion, spans 15,000 square meters and includes 12 tanks in three recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) departments, with a total vessel volume of approximately 36,000 cubic meters. Gaia Salmon emphasizes sustainability in its operations, collecting all sludge in the plant for energy reuse, which is expected to reduce emissions at sea and decrease the company's CO2 footprint by more than 30%. The company also claims that the facility will be a world leader in energy consumption.
