Gem

Gem is a cloud security firm developing a Threat Detection, Investigation, and Response (TDIR) solution for cloud infrastructure, securing an organization’s serverless environments across multiple cloud providers. As of May 2023, Gem’s platform supported major cloud and container service providers, including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Kubernetes.

Gem’s platform gathers telemetry data from multiple sources and maps it against the MITRE ATT&CK knowledge base, providing a holistic, high fidelity view of an organization’s cloud infrastructure while reducing noise and irrelevant alerts. Threat detection is driven by cloud-specific methods and behavioral analytics, with alerts providing context from cloud services to avoid needing manual checks in triage. 

Rather than aiming to only prevent breaches, Gem’s platform operates with an “assume breach” approach, combining threat hunting with automated response to threats via Gem’s cloud native methods or by integrating with other platforms in an organization’s cybersecurity workflow.

Funding and financials

Gem emerged from stealth in February 2023, raising USD 11 million in seed funding from Team8. Subsequently, in July 2023, the firm received an undisclosed strategic investment from Silicon Valley CISO Investments, a collective of security executives from global organizations.
