CampX is Volvo Group's global innovation arena for technology and business transformation. Since its inception in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2019, CampX has hosted over 50 startups as of February 2023 to develop sustainable mobility solutions through collaborations.
The concept brings promising startups together with Volvo Group's expert teams across Engineering, Legal, Intellectual Property, Purchasing and more. By co-locating and fostering spontaneous interactions, startups gain vital access to mentoring, networks, business insights, as well as Volvo's laboratories, test vehicles and product development facilities. This demand-driven innovation approach significantly reduces the time required for product and strategy development.
Some notable startups that have partnered with CampX include Radchat for radar technology, Repli5 for automated 3D environment creation, Kite for thermal management in electric vehicles, Fyrqom for automated tire pressure systems, and Autonomous Knight for multi-spectral cameras. The solutions developed by these startups can lead to important benefits for sustainable mobility in the transport industry.
In addition to the Incubator for early-stage startups in Gothenburg, CampX has accelerator programs at Volvo's R&D facilities in Bangalore, India; Greensboro, US; and Lyon, France which opened in March 2023. The innovation hub recently added fintech as a new focus area to further sustainable transport through novel financial services and business models. With this expanded scope, CampX aims to catalyze the urgent transformation toward fossil-free, safer and more efficient transport solutions through partnership-driven innovation.
