Guru.com was formed in 2004 when Emoonlighter (an online freelancer marketplace founded in August 2000) acquired leading online freelancer marketplace Guru (founded in 1999) in 2003 and subsequently rebranded as Guru.com. Its enterprise solutions are custom-tailored to match specific business needs for large and medium-sized businesses. Guru.com offers ‘workrooms’ where one can manage and track the progress of all freelancers from one screen. Its agency solutions help freelancing businesses grow their network by offering a credible platform with which to interact with large clients.
Guru.com reports that they have completed over 1 million jobs with over 2 million freelancers. The top five verticals based on the number of freelancers are programming and development, writing and translation, design and art, admin and secretarial, and sales and marketing. Guru.com services are based on quotes and one-time payments similar to Upwork, and the company offers SafePay which allows clients to pay for work only if they are 100% satisfied with output. Clients can also set up AutoPay which executes payment once a task is complete. This is in contrast to Upwork, which sets up payment either after work is completed or at the completion of project milestones which are determined by both parties prior to commencing the task.
