Based in Canada, Semios offers farmers a complete crop management platform using an IoT network of sensors, machine learning, and big data. Some of the company’s precision agriculture solutions include crop monitoring, plant stress monitoring, scouting tools, pesticide management, water management, record keeping, and farm data insights. Its solutions are adopted across various crop types, including apples, stone fruits, pears, nuts, and vines.
By September 2021, the company deployed its solutions in more than 120 million acres of row and permanent crops, having installed two million sensors across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and South Africa. Semios follows a subscription-based business model, charging farmers an annual fee of USD 180–260 per acre.
In 2021, Semios acquired three agriculture application and platform companies—Altrac (based in California), Centricity (based in Washington), and Agworld (based in Australia)—to strengthen its crop management solution and expand its market presence. The company planned to continue its acquisition strategy to advance its technology and support the agriculture industry to improve yield.
In September 2021, Semios raised USD 100 million in a private equity funding round led by Morningside Group and was valued at USD 1 billion. This brought its total funding raised to USD 225 million. The funds were to be directed toward R&D and to promote its solution across growers globally.
