Curio Research is a Web3-based game developer. It develops games that operate entirely on-chain, and it is powered by smart contracts, which allows it to create a new way of multiplayer computation. This increases transparency and enables all participants to contribute to develop the code and the game. The company was also developing its in-house custom infrastructure as of March 2023 to improve the performance of on-chain games and to make it easily accessible to non-crypto native users.

The company launched its first game called Treaty in January 2023, which is an online strategy game in which players act as governors to secure land and build economies. The game allows players to create their own smart contracts called “Treaties,” which allow players to draft rules around how they interact with other players, as well as build tooling, infrastructure, or applications such as custom asset marketplaces within the game.

Funding and financials

Curio raised USD 2.9 million in seed funding in February 2023, led by Bain Capital Crypto. The funds were earmarked to develop new Web3-based games as well as expand its development and design teams.
