Expend

Expend is a British company that offers card and non-card business expense management solutions. It lets businesses issue physical business expense cards powered by Mastercard, which includes custom limits, and gives businesses visibility over expenses through real-time tracking and categorization. In addition to linking the cards to the platform, users can use the Expend platform to reimburse expenses taking place by other means (such as cash and personal payment cards).

This non-card business expense reimbursement platform lets users upload invoices and bills to the app and then extracts the relevant information for the expense claim through its AI-driven data scanning technology. The information would then be relayed based on the approval workflow, which mirrors the company hierarchy and structure.

Expend lets users create expense reports, gain insights into spending, and automate accounting processes, through integrations with Xero and QuickBooks. The platform can also be integrated with Google Maps, for its travel claims feature, to ensure accuracy and compliance.In October 2024, Expend launched Card Connect for Mastercard and Visa business card integration.

Expend follows a business model that generates revenue from both a subscription as well as income from the use of payment products and cards. The company charges GBP 6.99 per user per month for enterprises with less than 250 employees and offers custom plans (with lower per user charges) for larger enterprises. The larger enterprises are also offered additional features such as custom onboarding and training and dedicated account managers.

The company primarily targets SMBs, and, as of May 2021, the platform was used by over 1,000 SMBs in the UK.
