German-based Greenlyte Carbon Technologies (GCT) is a direct air capture (DAC) startup that focuses on developing a low-cost and efficient technology for capturing CO2 and producing hydrogen as a byproduct. The company was a university spin-out based on 15 years of research and has been proven at various scales.
The company intended to install its first commercial demonstrator at customer premises by 2025. Moreover, GCT also intends to commission its first kiloton plant in conjunction with a hydrocarbon synthesis partner by 2027. The company aimed to achieve CO2 capture costs below EUR 100 (USD 109) per ton.
Key customers and partnerships
In January 2024, the company partnered with Deep Sky to deploy a 100-ton DAC unit at the latter’s Alpha Lab test facility in Quebec. In the same month, GCT partnered with Cella Mineral Storage to deliver and install a direct air capture (DAC) unit at Cella’s demo project located in Kenya.
Funding and financials
The company’s most recent funding round was in March 2024, when it raised EUR 10.5 million (USD 11.4 million) in pre-series A financing led by Earlybird Venture Capital. The funds were earmarked to accelerate the development, scaling, and commercialization of its low-cost, robust direct air capture (DAC) technology.
