Wilderwise is a tiny house builder based in California that offers modular, two-story, portable, and completely off-grid tiny homes. Their flagship model, the Wilderwise, is a 21-foot-long tiny house on wheels with an innovative pop-up roof system that expands the living space into a full second story with standing height once parked. This innovative design solves the common issue of cramped lofts in traditional tiny homes.
The Wilderwise is built on a custom aluminum trailer that serves as the foundation, with an aluminum and structural insulated panel (SIP) frame. When parked, the electric actuator and gas springs raise the roof by four feet, increasing the overall height from 13.5 feet to 17 feet, resulting in a spacious 295 square feet of living area across two floors. The dry weight of the tiny house is approximately 8,000 pounds due to the lightweight yet durable materials used, allowing it to be towed by an F-250 truck.
The first floor features a living area, kitchen, bathroom, and storage spaces, while the second floor accommodates an office and bedroom with a queen-sized bed. The home is designed with modular components that can be assembled and disassembled, enabling customization and easy transportation through tight spaces. With an average R-value of 24, the Wilderwise offers comfortable living in moderate temperatures, and the company is exploring options for enhanced insulation for colder climates.
In May 2023, Wilderwise announced that their tiny homes had been acquired by a larger company, aiming to streamline production and make their innovative design more accessible to the housing market.
