New York-based Fabric, previously known as Florence, is a technology service provider that offers virtual and in-person healthcare providers a clinical workflow automation platform for optimizing their operations. The platform allows patients to track their healthcare journeys, schedule both virtual and in-person appointments, initiate self-patient discharge procedures, update their clinical information, and manage prescription fulfillment.

Fabric ’s platform ties in with major EHR platforms, such as EPIC, Cerner, and athenahealth, allowing real-time updating of patient records. The company provides its platform across several states and operates on a B2B2C basis, working with healthcare providers and emergency departments such as Luminis Health in Maryland.

As of February 2024, the company noted that it had completed over 12 million patient interactions while streamlining processes for over 3,500 clinicians.

In May 2023, Fabric acquired Bright Health’s asynchronous platform, Zipnosis, for an undisclosed cash transaction. The acquisition was carried out to broaden both company's product offerings and increase market reach by combining Zipnosis’ synchronous and asynchronous offerings with Fabric’s clinical workflow automation platform. The acquisition also enabled Fabric to access Zipnosis’ established network of over 50 health institutions. Zipnosis will continue to operate independently; however, Fabric planned to invest in Zipnosis in addition to absorbing Zipnosis’ employees under its brand.

In January 2024, Fabric acquired conversational AI startup GYANT for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition was carried out to expand Fabric's offering by incorporating GYANT's conversational AI care assistant and patient engagement suite, enabling healthcare users to automate tasks such as patient navigation and scheduling. The acquisition also included GYANT's entire team, increasing Fabric's headcount to 130. GYANT's co-founder Stefan Behrens joined Fabric's executive team, serving as chief strategy officer.

In July 2024, Fabric acquired MeMD, a telehealth platform, from Walmart for an undisclosed sum. As of June 2024, MeMD provided its virtual behavioral, urgent, and primary care services to 30,000 corporate, institutional, and health plan partners and 5 million members. Following the acquisition, Fabric planned to broaden its services for employer and payer customers and enhance its behavioral health strategy. It also planned to integrate its clinical intelligence and automation services into MeMD.

Key customers and partnerships

As of February 2024, the company noted that it had 70 leading enterprise health customers on its platform which included healthcare providers such as Luminis Health, OSF HealthCare, MUSC Health, and Intermountain.
