Zhipu AI

Zhiphu AI is a Chinese company developing LLMs. In 2022, the company launched GLM-130B, a pre-trained model with over 100 billion parameters. In 2023, Zhiphu AI introduced the beta version of ChatGLM, a large-scale bilingual model capable of question-answering, long-form dialogue, and code generation in both Chinese and English. In January 2024, Zhipu AI released GLM-4 , which claims to provide improved multimodal abilities, longer context length, faster inference speed, and reduced inference costs.The model’s GLM-4 All Tools, a feature that autonomously understands and plans complex instructions based on user intent allows it to interact with web browsers, interpret code, and work with multimodal text-generation large models to accomplish complex tasks.

In August 2024, Zhipu AI, announced the free release of “GLM-4-Flash,” a large language model, for simple vertical tasks that require quick responses and low costs.

Key customers and partnerships

Zhipu AI has collaborated with the China Computer Society (CCF) and the Social Media Processing Committee of the China Association for Information Processing to launch funds to support research and cross-disciplinary innovation related to large models.

Funding and financials

In July 2023, Zhipu AI raised RMB 1.72 million (USD ~240,000) led by Meituan. Additionally, the company raised over CNY 2.5 billion (USD~0.35 billion) in funding in October 2023, with the participation of Meituan, Alibaba, Tencent, Xiaomi, Kingsoft, Sequoia, Gaorong, and others.
