SSENSE is a global technology platform for fashion that offers a curated selection of luxury, streetwear and avant-garde clothing and accessories. Launched in 2003 by brothers Rami, Firas and Bassel Atallah, the Montreal-based company pioneered selling high-end fashion online.
SSENSE carries over 700 brands ranging from luxury fashion houses like Gucci, Balenciaga and Prada to cutting-edge streetwear labels like Off-White, Marine Serre and Fear of God. The ecommerce site presents an editorial perspective, blending product imagery with original content like interviews and photo editorials.
Rather than marking up products with logos and branding, SSENSE presents minimalist product photos on a stark white background. This signature aesthetic reflects the company's focus on exceptional materiality and craftsmanship over overt labeling. SSENSE offers a range of categories including menswear, womenswear, accessories, bags, shoes and more.
In 2019, SSENSE relocated the company headquarters to a 720,000 square foot distribution facility in Saint-Laurent. The brand also operates a flagship retail store in Old Montreal designed for personal shopping appointments with a curated offering, cafe and flexible event spaces.
SSENSE has expanded its assortment over the years into new verticals like home decor, kids clothing and beauty. The company was profitable from its inception and saw double-digit annual growth by championing emerging designers and a directional product mix. In 2021, SSENSE sold a minority stake to investment firm Sequoia Capital China in a deal valuing the company over USD 4 billion.
