Based in the UK, Apron offers a business payout management platform for small businesses to make payments to suppliers and employees (payroll payments). The platform covers the accounts payable (AP) process from sorting invoices and getting approvals to tracking changes and making payments.
Apron enables payments directly from bank accounts (leveraging open banking and bank transfers) or credit cards (even if suppliers do not accept credit cards) and can handle batch payments for multiple suppliers/employees simultaneously. Apron can also be integrated with accounting platforms such as Xero and QuickBooks for automatic payment reconciliation.
The platform reportedly supports all UK banks and covers payments across 150+ countries and more than 30 currencies (as of June 2023).
Apron follows a subscription-based business model, with charges starting at GBP 29 (~USD 37) per month. The monthly subscription varies based on the number of supplier payments as well as value-added features such as global payouts, number of approvers, and bill payment through third party apps.
Funding and financials
Apron raised USD 15 million in a Series A round in September 2023, led by Index Ventures, to invest in expanding its team, product, and business reach.
