Skyfront

Skyfront is a California-based company that produces high-endurance hybrid drones designed for various applications, including public safety, defense, utility, and commercial operations. Their flagship product, the Perimeter 8, is a gasoline-electric hybrid drone that set a record in March 2021 for the longest multi-rotor drone flight, flying for 13 hours and four minutes and covering a distance of 205 miles.

The Perimeter eight utilizes a fuel-injected gasoline engine to convert fuel into electrical current, which then powers its eight rotors, providing significantly longer endurance compared to battery-electric systems. This extended flight time allows for missions such as surveillance, search-and-rescue, and payload deliveries without the need for frequent battery swaps or refueling stops.

In addition to the Perimeter 8, Skyfront offers the Perimeter 8+ model, which boasts over five hours of flight time without a payload and the ability to carry a maximum payload of 10 kg for an hour. Both drones feature an operational range of up to 216 km and can operate in temperatures up to 50°C with an optional upgrade.

Skyfront's drones support various payload options, including forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras, thermal sensors, LIDAR sensors, and the recently introduced MagniPhy magnetometer solution, designed for applications like surveying, mineral prospecting, and detecting unexploded ordnance (UXO). The MagniPhy, launched in June 2024, features an aerodynamic design and enhanced data quality, enabling more efficient and accurate magnetic surveying.

In September 2023, the Perimeter eight and Perimeter 8+ became the first drones to receive the AUVSI Green UAS Cleared certification, demonstrating their cybersecurity and compliance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
