Epiterna is a biotechcompany that focuses on developing products that can safely slow the aging process to prevent age-related disease, delay functional decline, and extend life. The company’s focus is on ageing, not individual age-related diseases. Therefore, its research platform is designed to identify any medicines that can safely extend lifespan and health span. This platform, EPITERNA, is used to evaluate drugs and assess their effect on healthy lifespan. The company claims that EPITERNA evaluates medicines that act at the molecular and cellular level in gold-standard animal models of ageing research. Its initial focus is on evaluating already approved medicines that veterinarians and doctors use.

The company reportedly has developed the capacity to evaluate thousands of medicines per year in yeast, worms, flies, fish, and mice, and are working to increase this capacity. The company targets to start the first clinical trial for companion dogs in 2024 in Europe. As of November 2023, clinical trials for people were expected to be initiated before launching its first products for companion animals.

Funding and financials

In August 2023, Epiterna raised EUR 10 million in funding from investment firm Prima Materia. The funds were to be used to fund its growth.
