8i’s technology combines and compresses volumetric data captured from up to 60 2K/4K cameras to create 3D assets/holograms in standard streamable formats. The platform also has an editing tool compatible with industry-leading tools like Maya and Blender, and integrates with Unity, Unreal, and 8th Wall to bring hologram assets into native and WebXR experiences. 8i’s streaming technology allows these holograms to be streamed live or on-demand to any device including smartphones, tablets, desktops, and VR headsets, for applications in areas such as training, commerce, communication, and entertainment.

The company provides all the hardware and the software needed to capture holograms, including stages, premium computer vision cameras, lighting, sync boxes, computers, and recording software. 8i’s system uses proprietary machine learning techniques to automatically reconstruct 3D figures using multiple video sources. Its 1000x compression technology is also supported by proprietary machine learning and enables high-quality real-time encoding.

The company first demonstrated its technology to render volumetric data in real time and stream live holograms in October 2021, during what the company claims, was “the world’s first livestreamed hologram interview”. Use cases for this technology include live presentations, concerts and performances, sports and entertainment events, training and education experiences, personal fitness, and shopping.
