ARX Robotics, founded in 2021 by Marc Wietfeld and Stefan Röbel, is a Munich-based defense technology company specializing in autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for military and civilian applications. The company's core product is the GEREON series of modular UGVs, designed to support soldiers and first responders in various scenarios. These robots can be configured for tasks such as live fire training, medical evacuation, reconnaissance, and logistics support.
ARX's UGVs are built on a universal robotic platform that allows for flexible add-ons and payloads. The robots can operate autonomously using artificial intelligence and sensors, or be controlled remotely. They are capable of imitating gunshot sounds, creating artificial fog, jamming drone signals, and serving as decoys. The largest model in the GEREON series can carry payloads of up to 500 kg.
As of May 2024, ARX's systems were deployed with the German Armed Forces in Slovakia, supporting tasks such as reconnaissance, logistical support, and casualty evacuation. The company's robots have been tested by the armed forces of Ukraine, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, and Estonia. ARX aims to enhance European technological sovereignty by scaling up production of autonomous unmanned systems.
In June 2024, ARX secured EUR 9 million in seed funding led by NATO's Innovation Fund, marking the largest seed round for a European defense tech company. This funding followed a EUR 1.15 million pre-seed round in September 2023 led by Project A Ventures.
