UK-based Keenan Recycling transforms food waste into electricity, heat, and fuel. The company also recycles food and garden waste into premium-grade compost. It collects food waste from a range of sources (restaurants, hotels, care homes, hospitals, prisons, and cafes as well as waste management companies, brokers, and councils) with a processing technology that ensures organic materials are separated from packaging.
The company was initially started as a garden waste composting business near Aberdeen in 2001, and as of October 2024, it had expanded its operations across the UK to become one of the largest food and garden recycling businesses in Scotland.
As of October 2024, Keenan Recycling claimed it had emptied food waste bins by 1,066,668 lifts, recycled 116,285 tons of organic waste, and saved 80,353 tons of CO2. In May 2024, the company sold its Linwood food waste transfer station in Scotland to Bio Capital Group to focus on expanding its services across the UK.
