Nile offers a serverless relational database management system based on Postgres that enables SaaS developers to virtualize and isolate tenant data. The Postgres solution enables multi-tenancy by separating the data layer from the compute layer and enabling users to connect a virtual tenant database. Users can gain full control over user data, isolate performance between tenants, and perform per-tenant backups and tenant placement on shared or dedicated computing resources across the globe. 

The platform’s global routing gateway can enforce tenant data isolation at the session and connection level and route to the correct tenant. The company claims to reduce cost by centralizing databases in a single location and to enable more efficient scaling via horizontal sharding. Additionally, the platform provides opt-in user management capabilities, customer-specific vector embeddings, and tenant admin dashboards.

As of January 2024, the company had 300+ registered databases and over 3,000 on its waitlist.

Funding and financials

In January 2024, Nile raised USD 11.6 million in seed funding led by Benchmark to support product development and the launch of the public beta version of the platform. Nile planned to get the solution ready for production and begin the monetization process.
