Based in Canada, Taalas develops AI chips capable of storing an entire large AI model without requiring external memory. The company claims that this novel approach, which aims to embed intelligence directly into silicon, reduces the necessity for a significant increase in computational power while enhancing efficiency and potentially outperforming a small GPU data center. As of March 2024, its first chip was in development, scheduled for release in Q3 2024. It will be available to consumers in Q1 2025.
Funding and financials
In March 2024, the company announced that it had raised a total of CAD 50 million (~USD 37 million) across two funding rounds led by Pierre Lamond and Quiet Capital. The funds will primarily be used to launch its first large language chip.
