Nutrimar, founded in 2006, processes by-products from salmon farming into sustainable feed ingredients. The company processes approximately 40,000 tonnes of salmon by-products annually into fresh salmon oil, meal, and hydrolyzed spray-dried protein concentrate. The company also harvests and processes laminaria hyperborea (large kelp) from the Norwegian coast. Through its biorefinery process, Nutrimar ensures 100% utilization of every harvested salmon. The company's production facility underwent a significant upgrade in autumn 2021, which reduced product loss from 40 kg/h to 0 kg/h, decreased energy consumption by 60%, and increased production from 325 kg/h to 578 kg/h. Their spray drying operations were converted from gas power to electricity. The company operates under HACCP codex alimentarius practices and GMP quality regime with Trustfeed approval. As of 2024, Nutrimar employs 70 people across its head office in Trondheim and biorefinery in Frøya, Norway. The company is owned by Kverva Industrier AS.
