Educational technology company Edmentum was formed in 2012 following the integration of PLATO Learning (founded in 1960) and Archipelago Learning (formed in 2009 through the merger of Study Island and Northstar Learning). Edmentum offers state and nationally-certified curricula, assessments, and educational services. Edmentum’s solutions include Courseware, Exact Path, Study Island (founded in 2000), EdOptions Academy (founded in 1997 and acquired by PLATO Learning in 2011), Calvert Learning (acquired in 2019), Reading Eggs, and BASE Education. The company’s offering supports educators and students in more than 40,000 schools across the US and internationally as of June 2021.

In July 2021, Edmentum completed its acquisition of Apex Learning, an online education and digital curriculum provider. Apex Learning provides online education, working closely with school districts to implement solutions to increase on-time graduation rates and student success. It offers courses for struggling students, tutorials, technology courses, and management services to schools and districts, as well as teaching resources. The combined entity’s hybrid and virtual learning programs will support millions of students worldwide. The acquisition follows a strategic growth investment in Edmentum from private investment firm The Vistria Group in December 2020. In August 2021, the company recognised 19 certified educators as Master Certified Instructors to add value to its professional learning courses.
