Scotland-based Malted AI offers small language models (SLMs) for enterprise applications. The company employs knowledge distillation technology, using data from "teacher" systems to train "student" SLMs for optimized performance. Malted AI technology reduces large language models (LLMs) into smaller, expertly focused language models (SLMs). This technique reportedly reduces costs of models by 10x–100x.

The offerings include domain-specific search and understanding, automated report generation, real-time information extraction, and personalized content generation.

Funding and financials

In May 2024, Malted AI raised ~USD 7.5 million in a seed funding round led by Hoxton Ventures, for research, product development, and expansion its team size.
