Neros is an autonomous drone startup founded in 2023 by former professional drone racers Soren Monroe-Anderson and Olaf Hichwa. The company designs, manufactures, and supplies unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for military applications. Neros has developed a cost-effective drone system priced in the low four figures, aiming to compete with cheaper Chinese alternatives while using non-Chinese supply chains. The company's drones are designed for various military purposes, including tracking enemy forces, guiding artillery, and bombing targets. As of May 2024, Neros was producing hundreds of drones per month at its facility in El Segundo, California. The company's manufacturing approach involves vertically integrating development and production processes to secure the supply chain and scale production. Neros has successfully tested and deployed functional drones in Ukraine.
Key customers and partnerships
Neros has established itself as a supplier of drones to Ukraine, having designed, manufactured, and shipped UAVs to the Ukrainian battlefield within months of the company's launch. The startup is also in discussions with the US Department of Defense about potential use of its vehicles across the Army, Air Force, and special forces. In May 2024, Neros raised USD 10.9 million in seed funding from Sequoia Capital to build a new factory and scale up production. This investment will enable the company to open a new 15,500-square-foot facility, allowing it to produce thousands of drones each month.
