Modsy

Modsy was an online interior design service that utilized 3D imaging technology to help customers visualize how their spaces would look with new furniture and decor. Founded in 2015, Modsy developed a visualization engine that allowed users to scan their rooms in 3D and work with designers to virtually redesign their homes. Customers could explore shoppable 3D renderings of their spaces, complete with furniture and decor recommendations from popular retailers.

Modsy's design process began with an interactive style quiz, followed by customers uploading photos and measurements of their rooms. The company's designers would then create 3D design concepts, which users could revise using Modsy's 3D Style Editor tool. Modsy offered different pricing packages, ranging from USD 159 for a single room to USD 499 for a Luxe package with additional design support.

In March 2022, Modsy launched a first-of-its-kind virtual Renovation Design service, enabling customers to visualize home improvements using 3D technology and virtual tours before construction. However, by June 2022, Modsy had ceased providing online interior design services to consumers.

On August 30, 2023, Modsy's intellectual property and team were acquired by homebuilder Lennar. Under Lennar's ownership, Modsy's visualization engine will be used to provide dynamic virtual tours of Lennar's model homes for potential buyers, rather than offering design services to individual consumers.

Key customers and partnerships

Modsy maintained collaborative partnerships with numerous retailers, including Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Wayfair, and Interior Define, among others. This enabled Modsy to offer customers access to a wide range of furniture and decor options from popular brands within its 3D renderings.

Additionally, in 2021, Modsy partnered with Lennar, with the homebuilder taking an investment stake in the company. As part of this partnership, Modsy's technology was initially used to provide virtual tours and design services for Lennar's homebuyers.
