Hydrotell is a technology company focused on developing tools and services for continuous reservoir monitoring in hydrocarbon producing fields. The company's patented technology measures the water pressure of the microscopic water film present in reservoir rock, using it to estimate the distance down to the free-water-level (FWL). Hydrotell gauges installed in wells continuously measure the difference in pressure between the hydrocarbon phase and water, providing useful information on the distance to the FWL as a function of time.
This information can be utilized to better plan in-fill drilling programs, make decisions regarding well operations and future developments, and monitor oil column build-up when wells are shut in. By understanding the pressure in both the water and oil phases, Hydrotell's technology enables a new level of continuous reservoir monitoring, allowing operators to track the movement of the oil-water contact (OWC) levels. The company has successfully proven the concept of measuring water pressure in pre-drained core samples (DEMO2000) and conducted pre-studies at Sele and Sola Beach in Stavanger, confirming pressure readings in the water phase. As of 2024, Hydrotell was led by CEO Solveig Riisøen, who has prior experience in the oil and gas industry as a reservoir engineer.
