Trail is a platform designed to simplify the operationalization of AI governance for developers and organizations. It was founded in 2023 by three alumni of TU Munich and the Center for Digital Technology and Management. Trail's platform allows users to classify risks, access relevant project information, generate documentation, and orchestrate governance workflows. The company's mission is to ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI systems.

Trail's platform offers several key features. 

1)The AI Governance Copilot allows users to perform model risk assessments, access project information, and increase transparency across teams.

2)Its AI Registry offers a central hub for AI projects that consolidates information, enhances transparency, and supports compliant collaboration.

3)The Audit Trail assists with tracking decisions in machine-learning development by combining data, models, hypotheses, and outcomes in one place. It also enables users to orchestrate governance workflows, tailoring them to the needs of different stakeholders, such as compliance teams or engineers.

4)Trail's platform also automates the generation of accurate documentation and reports for machine-learning development, from code and data to models, providing insights into capabilities and risks.

Trail also addresses compliance with regulatory frameworks, specifically the EU AI Act, which imposes significant penalties for non-compliance.
