Omnispace is redefining mobile connectivity for the 21st century by building the world's first truly global 5G hybrid network. The company aims to combine the global footprint of a non-geostationary satellite constellation with the mobile networks of leading telecom companies to deliver seamless 5G connectivity to users and IoT devices worldwide. Omnispace's network will leverage the 3GPP 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) standards, enabling interoperability across cellular and satellite networks.
Omnispace's technology utilizes its existing two GHz priority spectrum rights, integrating satellite and terrestrial networks into a single global system. The company plans to provide initial services in 2026 with 300 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. In February 2023, Omnispace announced a partnership with Ligado Networks to combine their licensed mobile satellite services (MSS) spectrum, creating the largest portfolio of satellite spectrum dedicated to direct-to-device voice, text, and data connectivity. This collaboration will enable Omnispace to offer multi-band, multi-orbit satellite solutions for consumer smartphones, automotive, and IoT applications.
In March 2024, Omnispace signed an agreement with MTN Group, Africa's largest mobile operator, to explore integrating their terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, leveraging S-band satellite services to expand MTN's wireless service portfolio. The companies aim to demonstrate cost-effective global connectivity beyond traditional cellular networks.
