Abl Schools

Abl School’s (Abl stands for ‘Always Be Learning’) scheduling software system helps school principals create master schedules for staff and students. Previously carried out annually, Abl Schools aims to make master scheduling a collaborative exercise that can be adjusted throughout the year, eliminating the need for spreadsheets and calendaring tools. The system automatically flags conflicts in scheduling and allows principals to set rules on the scheduling system. The system also offers an auditing tool that presents data points on a dashboard and flags inconsistencies. Abl charges schools an annual subscription based on the number of students they serve, along with additional fees for hands-on services.

In its most recent funding round in June 2017, Abl Schools raised USD 7.5 million in Series A funding to start selling its software to high schools that year and to elementary and middle schools in 2018.

In May 2019, Abl Schools acquired School by Design, a technology and consulting firm that works with districts on resource-planning projects. The companies offer complementary services—plans that School by Design helps to create to reallocate district resources across schools to achieve academic objectives are implemented by Abl’s schools’ master schedules. The two firms worked with 230 schools in 55 districts in 23 states as of May 2019 and will offer a bundled service going forward.
