Kokuma is a biotechnology company specializing in cosmetic active ingredients focused on skin pigmentation modulation. Kokuma offers two active ingredients for skin pigmentation control. The first product, TONASULIKE-D, is a patented depigmenting active ingredient derived from traditional Chinese medicine using AI technology. TONASULIKE-D is designed to suppress the melanogenesis process. Reportedly, human skin explants treated with the product display a 2.4x decrease in tyrosinase expression (the enzyme for melanin production). As of October 2024, TONASULIKE-D was at the regulatory pre-clinical stage of product development and was not commercially available.
The second product, TONASULIKE-P, is a UV-free melanin booster with a reported ability to achieve a 109% increase in natural melanin levels. As of October 2024, TONASULIKE-P was in the clinical trial stage of product development and was not commercially available.
Both ingredients are powdered and can be stored at room temperature, and both can be produced through chemical synthesis or biochemical fermentation. As of October 2024, the company had plans to launch solutions for skin repair and sensitive skin.
