SonderMind

Sondermind is a telepsychiatry platform that facilitates access to treatment covered by insurance plans for users with mental health conditions. As of July 2021, the company had more than 2,500 behavioral health professionals who are in-network with several health plans to help customers, depending on their insurance plan. Customers can answer questions to get matched with a psychiatrist, set up an account, enter insurer and credit card details for copays, and schedule a video appointment to discuss their health concerns. Some partnering insurers include Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, Anthem, and Cigna. The company also has a guaranteed pay program, which settles the practitioner fee within 24 hours of a patient visit. As of November 2022, the company operates across 15 states and has carried out over 1.5 million sessions.

In November 2022, the company acquired Total Brain, a mental health monitoring and support platform, for an undisclosed amount. Sonder Mind integrated Total Brain’s offerings into its own to provide a more holistic offering. As a result users have access additional options to maintain their well-being outside of therapy sessions and improve brain capacity, while simultaneously giving therapists and users insights into user’s mental patterns and triggers in order to optimize treatment plans.

In March 2023, the company acquired Mindstrong's technology assets, including some of its tech team. The acquisition was carried out for an undisclosed sum. Through the acquisition, SonderMind was able to offer more personalized care journeys to users, employ clinical note templates, and improve its measurement-based services.

Funding and financials

Its most recent funding round was in July 2021 when the company concluded a Series C funding round. This round brought the company's total funding to USD 183 million and valued the company at more than USD 1 billion to reach unicorn status. The company intended to use the funds to expedite the company’s national expansion drive across all 50 states (up from 10) in the US as well as to enhance its technological capabilities.
