Wonder is a New York-based food delivery startup led by the ecommerce entrepreneur Marc Lore. Wonder initially operated as a network of truck based restaurants that prepare and deliver meals in partnership with restaurants headed by celebrity chefs. However, the company changed its business model in January 2023 and announced plans to move to a fixed-space model and focus on static locations that offer delivery and pickup, as well as “limited dine-in options.” Wonder currently partners with restaurants to offer food delivery and pickup to select areas of New York City and New Jersey.
In January 2024 , Wonder announced plans to open two dine-in restaurant locations in New Jersey. The restaurant will function as a shared kitchen that hosts various restaurant brands, enabling customers to place orders from multiple restaurants in a single order. It opened a delivery-focused food hall at a Pennsylvania Walmart location in February 2024.
The company’s services were available to ~132,000 households in New Jersey. It planned to expand in New Jersey within 2022 and across the nation by 2035. As of January 2022, the company operated 60 restaurants in four New Jersey towns.
Funding and financials
In November 2023 , Wonder Group raised USD 100 million in funding as part of a strategic partnership with Nestlé. Under the partnership, Nestlé planned to manufacture pizza and pasta for Wonder's kitchen equipment, as well as sell the equipment to customers. In March 2024 , the company raised USD 700 million in a funding round led by NEA, GV, Accel, Bain Capital Ventures, Forerunner, Alpine, and Harmony. The funding will be utilized for the physical expansion of the company’s network of food halls, research and development, and the development of proprietary technology.
