ServiceScape is a freelance marketplace for editing, design, and translation services. The company’s existing service model resulted from a merger between its founder David Costello’s two business ventures. EditAvenue (website for editing services founded in 2000) and LanguageScape (website for translation services founded in 2006) were merged in 2007 to form ServiceScape.
For editing, clients are charged rates based on the project's deadline, as opposed to the subject, writing level, or editing type. Meanwhile, translation pricing varies based on document length and turnaround time. Client spend on the website is equally split between the platform and its freelancers, which is a higher take rate for the platform compared to other identified startups in the space.
