RunEL NGMT Ltd. is an Israeli company involved in research and development related to 5G cellular technology standards. In November 2017, RunEL was selected as a member of the Heron 5G Consortium, an international collaboration consisting of 11 companies and six research institutions. The consortium aims to conduct research on 5G cellular technology, with each member focusing on a specialized area.
The Heron 5G Consortium's objective is to define and optimize 5G technology solutions, ultimately influencing the international 5G cellular standard. The consortium is expected to run for three to five years, with plans for trials to begin in 2018-2019. 5G technology is anticipated to have a significant positive impact on wireless technology, enabling the connection of billions of mobile devices for the internet of Things (IoT) and supporting much higher data throughputs of up to one Gbps.
