Moshi originally came into existence as Mind Candy, a company founded by Michael Acton Smith, who later stepped down and founded Calm in 2015. The company was rebranded to Moshi in 2017 under new CEO, Ian Chambers. Moshi is an app which primarily helps kids sleep. In addition to sleep training, Moshi also offers meditation and mindfulness content specifically designed for children. Though the content is specifically created targeting children, the company claims that it can also be used by adults.
Moshi offers original content, which includes 30-minute long bedtime stories—sometimes narrated by celebrities—made up of narration and songs designed to align with a child’s average resting heart rate. Moshi operates on a subscription basis, priced at USD 12.99 per month or 79.99 per year (as of August 2024).
