Transit began by offering a free-to-use mobility information app for public transport. Since 2017, the app has evolved to become an integrated multimodal transportation app supporting public transport, ride-sharing, vehicle hiring, and micromobility solutions. Transit’s platform is integrated with a number of ride-hailing and car-sharing platforms including Uber, Lyft, Communauto, and Via, where users can compare prices and availability within the Transit app.
In August 2021, Transit introduced Royale, a subscription model to access certain features of its app. The subscription is priced at USD 2 per month (annual plan) or USD 4.99 (monthly plan). In 2022, the firm planned to offer subscriptions in partnership with transit agencies, where they would have the option of gifting it to their riders or have it bundled with other services. The firm claimed that it had opted for a subscription model as it does not wish to use an ad-supported model or monetize commuter data.
Key customers and partnerships
As of March 2022, Transit was available in 269 cities in 10 countries including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
Transit has also partnered with 50+ mobility payment providers across the US and Canada, such as Masabi and Token Transit, to allow app users to make contactless purchases including transit tickets and bike share passes. As of July 2021, the firm had sold one million fares through its platform, which has doubled since the start of 2021.
