Cumucore develops fully virtualized mobile packet core solutions for private 4G and 5G networks. The company's core product integrates network function virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) technologies to enable organizations to deploy and manage their private wireless networks.

The solution includes a mobile packet core with standard network functions, featuring capabilities such as network slicing, which allows network managers to define device groups and restrict access to specific network segments. The system can be deployed on the cloud. The company also offers a hardware component that can be integrated into existing off-the-shelf base stations (e.g., eNB) to transform legacy mobile backhaul into SDN mobile backhaul. Cumucore utilizes SDNs to provide software components that optimize content delivery across any location in the access network, which enables mobile operators to reduce network traffic by up to 50%. Cumucore’s solutions can be deployed on existing Wi-Fi infrastructure with a 3.5 GHz-assigned frequency license.

Cumucore’s Network Slicing Manager facilitates the creation of virtual networks from a single physical network. It allows users to define slice sizes, assign different quality of service levels, and establish traffic rules, including prioritization and pre-emption. Integrated with the Cumucore Network Wizard, it offers a graphical network management interface.

Cumucore's technology supports up to 10,000 users or devices and up to 10 base stations per network, and it can scale geographically through distributed mobile packet cores.

Key customers and partnerships

In May 2022, Cumucore deployed its 5G standalone private wireless network solution at Bosch Engineering's site in Holzkirchen, Germany, to support automotive use case testing.

In October 2023, Cumucore partnered with TOMIA to complete the first successful 5G SA roaming integration between two SEPP vendors, enabling secure 5G standalone roaming connectivity. In November 2023, the company collaborated with TV 2 Denmark, Sony, Nevion, and Node-H to test 5G technology in a live studio production environment.
