AnimalBiome is a company that provides microbiome testing and restoration products for companion animals like cats and dogs. Their core offering is a stool testing service that uses genetic sequencing to analyze an individual pet's gut microbiome. By comparing the results to a proprietary database of healthy reference samples, AnimalBiome can identify imbalances or missing beneficial bacteria in a pet's gut.
Based on the test findings, AnimalBiome offers personalized dietary recommendations and microbiome restoration supplements to help reestablish a healthy gut environment. A key product is their Gut Restore Supplement, which contains fecal microbiota from screened donor animals to repopulate the gut with a diverse community of beneficial bacteria through fecal transplantation.
AnimalBiome was founded in 2016 by researchers from UC Davis and UC Berkeley. As of July 2021, the company raised USD 8.6 million in Series A funding led by Cargill to accelerate growth and develop novel microbial products. By September 2022, AnimalBiome had tested over 30,000 pet microbiome samples, amassing one of the world's largest databases on cat and dog gut health.
