GroGuru is a precision agricultural SaaS company primarily providing irrigation management solutions to farmers through the deployment of field sensors.
Its product, Groguru WUGs (wireless underground system), uses sensors that measure crops’ soil moisture, temperature, and root depth. Collected data is then sent to the Cloud, where it is processed to deliver AI-based recommendations to farmers on how to irrigate their crops. The hardware (sensors) and solutions are provided to farmers on a subscription basis (USD 250 per year and USD 25 per month to access all data and set alerts). The sensors used can be buried in the ground and therefore can even be used for destructive harvest crops like corn and soybeans.
Trials for GroGuru solutions were conducted and the company launched a new product called GroGuru InSites, a SaaS product for strategic irrigation management, in January 2021. GroGuru InSites can be accessed via tablet, mobile phone or computer by farmers or farming consultants, and provides them with predictive and precise irrigation management decisions. As of August 2023, the company manages over 200,000 acres and serves customers with over one million deployable acres.
Key customers and partnerships
In January 2021, the company also partnered with DTN, a leader in producing data on weather across North America, affording Groguru customers access to DTN’s weather forecasting.
Funding and financials
In August 2023, GroGuru raised USD 2.3 million in a Series Seed A funding round co-led by Cove Fund and Impact Venture Capital, to expand sales, develop and commercialize its AI-enabled farm monitoring and management solutions, and expand its strategic partnerships. Previously, in March 2022, the company raised an equity crowdfunding round on the WeFunder platform to support new marketing initiatives for its irrigation solutions, hire additional engineers, purchase materials and test equipment.
