FlexEnable is a leader in the development and production of flexible organic electronics for active optics and displays. The company's core technology revolves around organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) made of polymers instead of silicon. These OTFTs are manufactured directly onto plastic sheets, resulting in displays that are thinner, lighter, and shatterproof compared to traditional glass displays. FlexEnable's technology enables the creation of flexible displays and optical modules with novel form factors, suitable for applications in AR/VR optics, ePrivacy screens, automotive smart windows, and Organic LCDs.
In June 2024, FlexEnable achieved a significant milestone by initiating mass production of the world's first consumer product incorporating organic transistor technology. This product, the Ledger Stax, is a secure crypto wallet developed by French company Ledger. The Ledger Stax features an E Ink display with a 180-degree bend, showcasing the unique capabilities of FlexEnable's OTFT technology. To bring this product to market, FlexEnable collaborated with display manufacturing companies DKE in Shanghai and Giantplus in Taiwan.
FlexEnable's intellectual property portfolio is substantial, with a total of 886 patents globally as of September 2023. Of these, 517 have been granted, and more than 35% are active. The company's primary markets for patent filings are the US, UK, and Germany, with the UK serving as its main R&D center. FlexEnable's innovations span various technologies related to plastic electronic products and flexible display technologies.
