Vertiv provides critical infrastructure technologies and lifecycle services for data centers, communication networks, and commercial and industrial environments.

Vertiv provides a wide range of digital infrastructure solutions, including critical power solutions, thermal management, racks and enclosures, and maintenance services. The company was formed in 2016 through a spinoff from Emerson Electric Co (a diversified global manufacturer) and has a global presence with regional hubs in China, India, the Philippines, and Italy.

Vertiv builds a range of customized modular, low-power edge micro data centers for enterprises, including its “SmartMod” and “SmartRow” units. Its offering ranges from 3-kilowatt to 30-kilowatt solutions in terms of power specs, which function as data-center-in-a-box solutions. The data centers include thermal and infrastructure management platforms as well. In November 2020, the company also rolled out a series of smart edge infrastructure solutions for its data centers to assist enterprises in optimizing data center architecture.

In April 2024 , Vertiv launched SmartRow2, a new Edge data center solution for streamlined edge deployments with increased scalability and flexibility. Further, it claims to reduce deployment times by 80% and costs by 30% compared to traditional data centers.

Vertiv has strategically expanded its product offerings through acquisitions, including Energy Labs (air handling systems) in January 2018, Geist (rack PDUs) in February 2018, MEMS Power Generation (temporary power solutions) in December 2018, and E+I Engineering (electrical switchgear and power distribution systems) in November 2021 for USD 1.8 billion.

Key customers and partnerships

Vertiv serves a global clientele with notable enterprise customers such as Alibaba, Alstom, America Movil, AT&T, China Mobile, Equinix, Ericsson, Reliance, Siemens, Telefonica, Tencent, Verizon, and Vodafone.

In March 2021, Vertiv partnered with Green Revolution Cooling (GRC) to launch “Liebert VIC,” (a single-phase cooling system that reduces cooling energy costs by up to 95%) throughout Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Moreover, Green Mountain, a data center provider focusing on sustainability and efficiency, deployed Vertiv’s Liebert PCW units and UPS systems.

Vertiv teamed up with Intel in December 2023 to provide innovative cooling solutions for Intel's Gaudi3 AI accelerator, enhancing performance and efficiency for high-power chips used in AI processing while supporting sustainability goals.

Funding and financials

Vertiv generated over USD 5.7 billion in revenue in FY 2022 with an operating profit of USD 439 million. The company also posted a year-end backlog of USD 4.7 billion as of FY 2023. As of December 2022, the company employed approximately 27,000 employees.
