Ocean Hugger Foods is a New York-based producer of plant-based seafood for sushi dishes. The startup has developed two products, “Ahimi” and “Unami”. Ahimi, a tuna alternative, is made from tomatoes, while Unami, a freshwater eel alternative, is made from eggplants.
Key customers and partnerships
After pausing its operations in August 2020, in March 2021, the company relaunched under the new joint venture named “Ocean Hugger'' in collaboration with the plant-based meat producer Nove Foods. Ocean Hugger Foods and Nove Foods planned to launch to retail and food service customers in late 2021 under the new joint venture.
