Founded in 1832, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) is a learning technology company providing K-12 core curriculum, supplemental and intervention solutions, and professional learning services. The company serves more than 50 million students and three million educators across 150 countries. It is reportedly the largest learning technology company for K-12 in the US, serving 90% of schools, teachers, and students as of March 2021.

In March 2021, the company added HMH Into Science, a Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)-aligned core curriculum for grades K-5, to its Into Learning core programs. The program, available on HMH's digital teaching and learning platform “Ed: Your Friend in Learning,” incorporates multimedia components, increased interactivity such as lab simulations, formative and performance-based assessments, English Language Arts (ELA) skills such as reading, writing, and listening, embedded social-emotional learning support, and professional learning and live community support for educators. HMH announced the divestiture of its consumer publishing business HMH Books & Media to HarperCollins Publishers, the trade publishing division of diversified media and information services company News Corp, for USD 349 million, which was completed in May 2021. The divestiture allows HMH to focus on K-12 education and expand its digital business and settle a considerable portion of its debt.

In April 2021, HMH launched Acceleration For All, designed to accelerate recovery in reading and math following pandemic-induced school interruptions. The product combines HMH’s READ 180 and MATH 180 intervention solutions for reading and math with adaptive assessments, artificial intelligence-driven practice, and professional services; allowing teachers to provide personalized instruction even in general classroom settings. Additionally, HMH launched a new online hub for educators and district leaders covering post-pandemic learning recovery that contains insights and research in the form of podcasts, ebooks, articles, and webinars.

Heinemann is a provider of professional resources and educational services established in 1978 as a subsidiary of Heinemann UK. Heinemann’s US operations were acquired by HMH in 2007. The company supports educators from kindergarten to college by providing professional books, explicit teaching materials, streaming videos, podcasts and blogs, and professional learning experiences.

In March 2021, Heinemann announced an expansion to its portfolio of math teaching resources with: Listening to Learn, a K-5 digital interview tool, scheduled for a Spring 2021 launch; Do The Math, a supplemental program for grades 1–5 currently marketed by HMH; Math By the Book, a recently acquired math and literature offering to be launched in 2021; and a follow up to Routines for Reasoning, scheduled for publication in late 2021.
