OxSight is a company founded by a group of scientists from the University of Oxford in 2016, with the goal of developing innovative solutions for visual impairment setbacks. Their flagship products are the OxSight Onyx and OxSight Crystal glasses, designed to enhance the remaining vision of individuals with central vision loss and visual field loss, respectively.
The OxSight Onyx glasses utilize a camera mounted over the bridge of the nose to capture images, which are then processed by an onboard computer and displayed on two OLED screens within the glasses. This technology allows for up to 8x magnification, high contrast filters, automatic night mode, object detection, face recognition with tracking and auto zoom, a screen watching mode, and a 70-degree field of view. Trials conducted by OxSight have reported that 86% of users experienced a significant improvement in their reading ability, 78% experienced improved object identification, and 77% could recognize faces and facial expressions better after using the Onyx glasses.
The OxSight Crystal, on the other hand, is designed specifically for individuals with significant visual field loss, such as those with retinitis pigmentosa or advanced glaucoma. It features a camera on the right side of the unit and two HD displays with a removable sun shield. The Crystal can expand the field of view up to 68 degrees and offers seven vision enhancement modes, including full-color video, black and white, color edges, high contrast, super color enhancement, super color edges, and text mode.
