Founded in 2014 by Damir Sabol, Photomath is a free mobile-first app which uses artificial intelligence to scan, solve, and explain math problems step-by-step with the aim of helping students master fundamental math concepts. Photomath is used by students, parents, and teachers to complement classroom learning. The premium version, Photomath Plus, offers features such as animated tutorials and dynamic illustrations. With more than 300 million app downloads in more than 30 languages across over 200 countries as of October 2022, Photomath is reportedly the world’s most used math app.
In February 2023, Google acquired Photomath with the aim of enhancing math education for students.
Funding and financials
In February 2021, the company raised USD 23 million in Series B funding to invest in AI and machine learning capabilities for further product development, market development, and headcount expansion.
