Sintavia offers on-demand additive manufacturing (AM) services to design and manufacture advanced propulsion and thermodynamic systems targeting the aerospace, defense, and space industries. The company also performs powder (material) quality verification, post-processing, and non-destructive testing (NDT) of printed parts. In July 2021, Sintavia introduced a proprietary printing technology for GRCop-42, the preferred copper alloy used by NASA and private space flight companies. Sintavia uses 3D printers developed by several manufacturers including AMCM, GE Additive, and SLM Solutions. In 2019, the company acquired industrial testing lab QC Laboratories to enhance its NDT capabilities.

In November 2022, the company introduced a proprietary niobium alloy that can accommodate extreme temperatures, making it specifically suitable for space propulsion applications.

Sintavia operated with a 77,000 sq ft facility, with 25 industrial 3D printers using proprietary metal parameter sets for nickel, copper, titanium, aluminum, and refractory metals as of January 2024.

In April 2024, the company announced that it would invest USD 25 million to expand its metal AM headquarters in Florida. Planned to be completed by Q4 2024, the expansion aims to cater to the demands of the US Department of Defense and will include the addition of 25,000 sq ft of advanced manufacturing space as well as large-format 3D printers, large-format post-processing systems, and component testing equipment.

Key customers and partnerships

Sintavia has partnered with AM incumbent Siemens (September 2020) to develop an end-to-end AM software solution as a part of Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio. It also partnered with Japan’s Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC) in February 2018 to develop and commercialize gas flow processes using 3D printing solutions. In March 2023, the company partnered with Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. to develop a dedicated AM facility for the US Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Funding and financials

In June 2023, Sintavia received a strategic investment from Lockheed Martin Corporation to expand its existing joint development agreement and support the research and development of metal AM technologies.
