Plantix

Plantix (registered as PEAT GmbH) is a Berlin-based, female-founded company that offers a free agricultural app known as Plantix, which uses AI-based image recognition to detect diseases and control pests. Users can upload pictures of affected crops from their mobile devices to diagnose unwanted fungi and insects and receive recommendations on targeted biological or chemical treatments for ailing plants. The company also operates Plantix Partner, an ecosystem that facilitates the connection between retailers and the sourcing and financing needs of small-scale farmers. The company offers solutions for 30 major crops, detects 600+ plant damages using machine learning and AI, and is available in 18 languages.

The company has offices in Berlin, Germany, and in Indore and Hyderabad, India. Plantix claims to be the world's largest free agricultural app for farmers. The company generates revenue by converting the pictures received from farmers into data such as GPS location, time stamps, climate data, solar data, and soil data through machine learning. It then sells this data to companies like BASF, who incorporate it into their own crop management products. As of May 2023, the company’s Plantix app was available in 160 countries and had 70,000 daily active app users. As of the same period, the Plantix Partner app was delivering 40+ brands and 1,000+ products operating in nine Indian states and trusted by 60,000 retailers. Plantix had plans to expand its presence in India and Southeast Asia, aiming to onboard 10 million+ farmers and 200,000+ retailers onto the platform by 2023. As of May 2023, the company stated that its app downloads had exceeded 20 million. In 2022, the company answered more than 40 million cultivation and crop-related questions from farmers and digitally connected with 60,000 +retailers.

In April 2023, Plantix joined forces with HELM AG, with HELM acquiring the majority of shares in Plantix and becoming the majority shareholder of the company.

In April 2020, Plantix acquired Salesbee GmbH and its Indian subsidiary, Salesbee India Private Limited, for an undisclosed amount to generate substantial value for farmers, retailers, and agri-input companies in India by uniting all key stakeholders on a digital platform. 

The company reported that its revenue grew close to 4x over the course of 2020 and experienced 10x revenue growth in Q1 2021. In November 2019, Plantix raised EUR 6.6 million (~USD 7.05 million) in Series A funding led by RTP Global, aiming to enhance the company's AI-driven solution.
