Skyryse, headquartered in Los Angeles, develops advanced flight control systems designed to simplify aviation. Its flagship system, FlightOS, reduces the complexity of flying in normal, adverse, and emergency conditions by integrating actuators and flight control computers to replace traditional mechanical systems. Skyryse claims FlightOS can be retrofitted onto any aircraft, requiring only touchscreen and joystick operation, and aims to maintain cost neutrality for manufacturers. In February 2023, Skyryse achieved full FAA compliance for its FlightOS system using established and certifiable technologies, paving the way for market readiness.
Skyryse also focuses on automating flight systems, incorporating sensors, radar, and cameras to ensure safety by monitoring the environment during flights. With regulatory approval for full autonomy unlikely soon, the company shifted its focus to high-automation control systems that enhance safety and usability. Skyryse claims its technology reduces pilot training time by up to 50% and aims to reactivate inactive pilots while addressing pilot shortages. In March 2023, the company launched its FlightOS system for single-pilot, fly-by-wire VTOL aircraft, providing full Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) certification and capability.
Key customers and partnerships
In 2021, Skyryse established collaborations with five renowned original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the fixed-wing and rotorcraft industry, including Robinson Helicopters. These OEMs, responsible for manufacturing more than half of the world's new general aviation aircraft, were slated to acquire FlightOS from Skyryse. Robinson Helicopters, known as the largest rotorcraft manufacturer globally, intended to incorporate Skyryse's system into its flagship model, the R66.
Air Methods, a leading air medical transport company in the US, partnered with Skyryse to upgrade over 400 units in its fleet, primarily consisting of single-engine helicopters.
