Winding Tree, a not-for-profit organization, is the developer of an open-source blockchain-based ecosystem, which includes a travel marketplace specifically designed for the crypto community and digital nomads. Simard, a commercial entity created by Winding Tree, helps businesses navigate integrations and implementations needed to benefit from the ecosystem and protocol. Winding Tree’s Win platform offers a decentralized alternative to GDS and OTA distribution at a lower cost by not charging suppliers a distribution fee and only charging a transaction fee, calculated automatically by the blockchain at the time of the transaction. Líf, the company’s ERC-20 token, has been in circulation since its Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2017, and it is currently used for governance to vote on proposals as part of a DAO. By utilizing Lif for transactions, the number of times a currency is translated can be reduced, thus minimizing foreign exchange fees. Moreover, the token can hold different types of travel-related data like booking information, identification, baggage tracking details, and loyalty points. The company has also developed the Videre Protocol, a blockchain-based P2P marketplace for real-world services that guarantees consumer anonymity. Additionally, Winding Tree created ORGiD, a global decentralized business registry that simplifies the verification of identities between businesses and individuals. 

Key customers and partnerships

Partnerships include that with American Airlines in November 2021 for corporate buyers to access the airline's data on flights directly without the need for intermediaries. Previous partnerships include that with Nordic Choice hotels (February 2018) and Lufthansa (October 2017).
